Assignments - lady in suit

The CACDP online directory lists the areas (domains) that a Language Service Professional would be willing to work in, and assignments which they are not willing to undertake. A full list of domains can be viewed here.

The National Agreement states that, wherever possible, only Members of the Register should work in the legal domain.

Level 2 Lipspeakers must only accept assignments in areas where they are qualified and competent to work, i.e. in domains where there is a high level of deaf awareness, and speech speeds are unlikely to exceed 120 wpm, and where the deaf user has the ability to intervene to control

proceedings. Level 2 Lipspeakers should not accept assignments in employment, legal, quasi-legal (e.g. Tribunals), mental health or Social Services contexts.

The Registration Panels expect that individuals will know their own limitations, and will act within the spirit of the Code of Ethics in deciding which assignments they are currently sufficiently experienced and competent to accept.

The Independent Registration Panel (IRP) may introduce measures to regulate the work of Trainee Interpreters (TI) and Junior Trainee Interpreter (JTI) in future years.
