Become an LSP
Introduction to Registration

CACDP has registered BSL/English Interpreters and other Language Service Professionals (LSPs) since 1992.
Language Service Professionals (LSPs) are professionals with recognised qualifications in various language and communication skills (and other areas as appropriate). They provide specific types of communication support to deaf and hearing people.
Registration is a mechanism for regulating BSL/English Interpreters and other LSPs. It enables the LSP to demonstrate their commitment to the highest professional standards. It also provides the user with a guarantee that the LSP:
- has the appropriate qualifications,
- has achieved the required standard appropriate to their
level of registration, - has agreed to be subject to a Code of Ethics and Disciplinary procedure.
Registration of BSL/English Interpreters is undertaken by the Independent Registration Panel (IRP). The ACE/Deafblind Registration Panel administers the registration of all other LSP categories:
- Lipspeakers,
- Speech to Text Reporters,
- LSPs - Deafblind Manual,
- Electronic or Manual Notetaker
There are different registration categories, depending on the qualifications and skills of an LSP. There are three registration dates throughout the course of the year.
To find out more about how to
register, please visit your chosen LSP category.
Please note, CACDP does not register agencies. An Agency Steering Group has been established, consisting of LSP agencies, professional bodies and deaf consumers. Details of their remit can be found at: http://www.freewebs.com/ agencysteeringgroup/
