British/Irish Sign Language

British / Irish Sign Language

British Sign Language (BSL) is the first or preferred language of an estimated 50,000 - 70,000 Deaf people in the UK and it is the language of the Deaf community. In March 2003, BSL was recognised by the Government as a language in its own right.

Irish Sign Language (ISL) is the sign language of the Republic of Ireland, although it is also used in Northern Ireland.

BSL is a visual-gestural language, with its own grammar rules and principles, which are completely different from the grammatical rules of English.

We offer qualifications in British and Irish Sign Language from Level 1 to Level 4.
